MOTHERHOOD

A collection of thoughts, by moms, for moms. We're all in this together.

“Honey, for the millionth time, I'm busy!"

“Honey, for the millionth time, I'm busy!"

The other day I overbooked my morning which left me feeling rushed, stressed out and overwhelmed. I had too much to do and only 40 minutes until I had to pick up my younger son from daycare. I sent the last email, wrapped up the final call and logged into a virtual event I've been looking forward to all week. Not more than two minutes past and I ended up telling my 7 year old in a not-so-nice voice, Honey, for the millionth time, I'm busy! while unmuted during the zoom call. Luckily, my camera was turned off. First, I burst into tears, then I left the meeting. Why was I being so hard on myself? Why did this small incident provoke an avalanche of feelings?

A few hours later I wrote this piece.

What I'm Taking With Me Into 2021 and My Biggest Hope for the New Year

My biggest hope for 2021 is that gathering with people is allowed and safe again. I've missed being with others in the same room. I've missed wine nights, dinner parties, meet-ups, conferences. I've missed the sound of wholehearted laughs, and loud conversations. Gosh, I've even missed having loud playdates at our home, a half a dozen of kids jumping on the couch and building pillow forts in our living room. Because 2020 reminded me that human connection is precious, magical and irreplaceable. The need for genuine human interaction is what connects us regardless of race, political views, gender, religion and socio-economic status. I hope 2021 brings us all together again, literally and figuratively.

The Silver Linings Journal

Turning my face toward the sun and closing my eyes for a few seconds feels like heaven.

On the blog today, I’m sharing one-sentence silver-linings I've been jotting down in my daily journaling practice. Short, simple, these one-liners are a reflection of ordinary every-day moments that make me happy. 2020 has been a lot of things but I'm choosing to focus on the positives that have come out of this unprecedented, transitional, trying time. Appreciating what I have and what I can do rather than dwelling on the negatives has helped me tremendously during the pandemic.

Have you found silver linings in your life during these challenging times? Have you learned something new about yourself?

Life In A Pandemic

Life In A Pandemic

I haven’t written a blog post in a while, but I’m excited to share what I’ve been up to in the last (almost!) 6 months. The year 2020 took us all by a surprise, don’t you agree? We thought we had it all figured out until a global pandemic put a halt to our lives as we knew it.

There were so many questions, so many unknowns, and not many reassurances we could lean on.

27 (Sample) Dresses Later And How I Got Here

Ever since I became a mother in December 2013, I wanted to find work that would allow me to be there for my babies in those early days and to support my husband in his medical career. When my second son Julian was born in March 2017, I left my corporate job and got serious about launching a collection of breastfeeding-friendly basics. The MLM brand was born out of nap time and post bed time hustle in May 2017.

With most of my friends currently in a social distancing mode, it’s almost hard to believe that just a couple of weeks ago we gathered at the gorgeous DL Studio to celebrate International Women’s Day. ⁣

What 6 Years Of Motherhood Has Taught Me (That I’d Like Other Moms To Know)

A few weeks ago my first born turned 6, and gosh, the days were long, but the years went by fast! The most beautiful thing about motherhood is that it looks different for everyone. Some mothers breastfeed their kids until they are 5, others feed their babies using bottles, yet others do a combination of both. Some mothers feel most fulfilled working outside of the home, others pause their careers to make room for motherhood. There’s no one-size-fits-all motherhood model. Learning and accepting this, and finding my own way of parenting took a while, but ultimately made me a calmer, more confident mom.

4 Effortless And Chic Ways To Wear Your #LBD This Fall (And Winter)

4 Effortless And Chic Ways To Wear Your #LBD This Fall (And Winter)

So, Chicago decided to skip fall and head straight into winter. But that’s nothing unusual for those of us who had lived in the Midwest for a while, am I right? It’s leather jackets and bare ankles on Monday, and puffer jackets and snow boots on Tuesday. If you’re a breastfeeding or pumping mama, figuring out how to dress in layers, stay warm, and be able to nurse or pump on the go can get tricky without spending a fortune on breastfeeding-friendly apparel.

4 Chicago Mamas On Traveling With Kids

With back to school craze behind us and off-season travels beginning to spike, I’ve found myself pinning inspiration and tips for our next trip. My kids are wonderful little travelers, yet after our return flight from Poland I felt I could use some fresh ideas. And you know who has the best tips? Your girlfriends! So I reached out to a few of my fave Chicago mama friends (who always inspire me with their creative parenting ways), and asked them to share their winning strategies for traveling with kids. I hope you enjoy reading this piece as much as I did. And maybe you’ll walk away with a couple of new hacks for keeping your kids content during your next trip.
